This Week I Learned -

* Azure Bastion service enables you to securely and seamlessly RDP & SSH to your VMs in Azure virtual network, without the need of public IP on the VM, directly from the Azure portal, and without the need of any additional client/agent or any piece of software. Once you provision an Azure Bastion service in your virtual network, the seamless RDP/SSH experience is available to all your VMs in the same virtual network.

* Azure ML Designer - No-code machine learning solution that is part of Azure ML Studio

* Azure Machine Learning Algorithm Cheat Sheet helps you choose the right algorithm from the designer for a predictive analytics model - http://aka.ms/AlgorithmCheatSheet

Data Migration Assistant assesses databases for readiness to move to Azure and recommends target SKUs. Database Migration Service migrates databases to Azure at scale. SQL Server Migration Assistant assesses and migrates databases from other database management systems to SQL Server.

* Database Migration Service offers two pricing options. The Standard tier is free and the Premium tier is free for six months from the service creation date.

* Site Recovery has an RTO SLA of 2 hours. However, most of the time, Site Recovery fails over virtual machines within minutes. You can calculate the RTO by going to the failover jobs, which show the time it took to bring up the VM.

Azure Well-Architected Framework is focused on providing guidance at the workload level.  Cloud Adoption Framework is separate, and is really focused at the portfolio level.

Crisp definitions - Azure Service Bus is a reliable messaging-as-a-service (MaaS) framework that enables real-time, asynchronous messaging across systems. In specific use cases, this is a valuable feature that provides the ability to integrate with both cloud and on-premise systems in a serverless, distributed fashion.

* Event Grid is a fully-managed event routing service.

Before deploying any application on any cloud, there is a need to design and configure a base environment that lays out:
- Account structure
- Account security and compliance
- Network infrastructure
- Management services such as identity and management, backup, patching and monitoring services.
This base environment is called a landing zone and is the most critical phase of planning a migration.

* Some of the services in AWS ML Stack like Personalize, Forecast are based on Amazon's experience derived from running Amazon.com. Coursera uses Amazon Personalize to provide personalized recommendations.

Toutiao, “the Buzzfeed of China”, is one of China's largest mobile platforms of content creation, aggregation and distribution underpinned by machine learning techniques. In October 2016, Toutiao gave India's local-language app Dailyhunt's 25 million dollars in its series D funding round. Toutiao's parent company, Bytedance owns TopBuzz in the US and Brazil. After trying and failing in 2016 to buy Reddit, the popular U.S. aggregation and discussion site, in 2017 Toutiao snapped up a France-based news aggregator and Musical.ly, a Chinese video lip- syncing app that’s wildly popular with American teens.

* The 'Power Platform' is a collective term for three Microsoft products: Power BI, PowerApps and Power Automate (previously known as Flow). Power Platform is a low-code framework to build robust applications and extend upon each with custom code whenever the existing framework doesn't support the desired functionality.

Power BI is not one tool but rather a collection of services, applications, and connectors that work together to provide a unified analysis of unrelated data sources.

* A low-code application platform (LCAP) is an application platform that supports rapid application development, one-step deployment, execution and management using declarative, high-level programming abstractions, such as model-driven and metadata-based programming languages. They support the development of user interfaces, business logic and data services, and improve productivity at the expense of portability across vendors, as compared with conventional application platforms. Gartner views “no-code” application platforms as part of the LCAP market. “No-code” is a marketing and positioning statement, implying that the platform requires text entry only for formulas or simple expressions, all other aspects of application development being enabled by visual modeling or configuration.

* Common Data Service is an evolution of the Dynamics 365 platform

* Google and Apple have partnered on an open source reference implementation of an Exposure Notifications server for COVID‑19. It is written in Go language.

* An external hard drive, advertised as 1.0 TB (terabytes), would display as 0.909 TiB (tebibytes). One gibibyte equals 1.074 gigabytes. That's a 7% difference. The prefix gibi originated with the binary system for measuring data capacity, which is based on powers of two. One gibibyte equals 2^30. Other IEC binary prefixes are KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB or kibi, mebi, gibi respectively. The binary prefixes are mostly used in academic settings, technical literature and open system circles. They are not used much in commercial environments.

Mantis ClimateTag sensors provide you data for the environment around you, including data related to the temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, UV light, and ambient light. It can be programmed with Microsoft MakeCode editor.

* "Napoleon Complex" is a theorized inferiority complex normally attributed to people of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior, such as lying about earnings, and carries the implication that such behavior is compensatory for the subject's physical or social shortcomings.

Avoid becoming an administrator, or your job will consist of dealing with money and disputes.

* Farsi which is spoken in Iran is similar to Dari in Afghanistan, though accents differ. Though not as extreme as the gulf between the Portuguese spoken in Brazil and in Portugal, European and Latin American Spanish are quite different animals -- different enough that learning the language in one place means you’ll need some adjustment once you cross to the other side of the pond. There is enormous variety between the accents, dialects, and vocabulary sets of Spanish spoken in Spain, usually just called espaƱol verus Latin America, often referred to as castellano. To make things even more complicated, there are even further distinctions within Latin America, between socioeconomic classes, and within countries. Overall, grammar throughout Spanish is fairly consistent.

* ..the 60 million-plus MSMEs / small businesses in India...contribute 29% to its GDP

* Bhopal is surrounded by umpteen number of water bodies and it has earned it the epithet of 'City of Lakes'.

* Kamakhay Mandir in Guwahati built in 1565 A.D. lies in the highest seismic zone, V. During the last 447 years, it has withstood three major earthquakes of magnitude 8.0 or more. The temple is still intact. There are no marks of any historical seismic damage the temple’s circular structure and the dome-type upper section.

* The Bajura Mahadev Mandir in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, said to be 1,100 years old, is still standing, despite at least six or seven earthquakes of magnitude more than 7.5. This temple is not exactly circular. But it has four heavy flanges projecting in four directions, which gives it the character of a circular construction.

* Some historical records mention that the design of Sansad Bhavan is based on the design of the Chausat Yogini temple (the word chausat referring to the 64 temples within the big circular temple) at Mitwali (Mitaoli) in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. The temple was constructed in the 8th century A.D. It lies in Seismic Zone III. It can thus be seen that circular cross section constructions are standing in good condition at Mitwali (Zone III) for 1300 years, Manali (Zone V) for 1100 years and. Guwahati (Zone V) for 447 years.

* It took six years to construct the Lutyens-Baker designed Parliament House. Inaugurated by Lord Irwin on January 18, 1927 — originally known as Council House, and after independence as Sansad Bhavan — the building is majestically spread over six acres. Pink and red Dholpur sandstone were used in the construction. It has 144 pillars and the diameter of the building is 170 metres - The Hindu

* The Vazhakulam pineapple was given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2009 under the Agricultural-Horticultural category.

* Indologist, orientalist and antiquary, James Prinsep's studies on rock inscriptions helped in the establishment of date of Indian dynasties based on references to Antiochus and other Greeks. He was the founding editor of the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal and is best remembered for deciphering the Kharosthi and Brahmi scripts of ancient India.

Henry Derozio was known during his lifetime as the first 'national' poet of modern India. At the age of 18, became a Professor of English Literature and History at the Hindu College, Kolkata. His teachings inspired the development of the spirit of liberty, equality, and freedom. Derozio died of cholera at an early age of 22. His students formed a society called the Society for the Acquisition of General Knowledge. Its main objective was to acquire and disseminate knowledge about the condition of the country.
