Choose Functionally Equivalent Websites In Place of Smartphone Apps

In this season of cleaning up your smartphone & removing shady Chinese apps, also review other apps to see if they are still relevant.

Delete especially apps whose function can be accomplished by a website. Following are some advantages of using equivalent websites -

  • As many apps "mine" personal data, there is a lower chance of your personal information getting misused when you choose reliable websites instead.
  • No need to fetch updated versions. This can result in a lower bandwidth bill
  • Improved performance of your smartphone due to reduced dependence on phone's hardware resources

HOW TO Filter Products on Open Food Facts by Country (India) Using DuckDB & Superset

Image
Open Food Facts (OFF) is a crowd-sourced database of food products from around the world.  Somewhere in the world, a shopper scans the barcode on a packet of biscuits and adds basic product details. Another person photographs a package label for the same product in Hyderabad. A volunteer in France fixes a typo.  That's Open Food Facts, a volunteer-built, openly licensed database of food products that's continually changing and growing. HOW TO dynamically generate a Word document with custom header & footer

Image
Way back in 2004, a project I was working on required a web page to be exported as a Word document (.DOC). Without relying on any components, I utilized the Office XML & HTML technique to implement this feature. I posted my sample on CodeProject to seek feedback. Over the years, I've received some generous comments & feature requests. Many wanted to know how to add a header & footer to the dynamically generated Word document. With the help of the Microsoft Office HTML and XML Reference , I devised a hack to add a lacklustre header and/or footer . Some folks wanted to customize the contents of the header & footer but when they tried with my hack that offered limited functionality, the header/footer text showed up in the document body to their annoyance. This July, an ingenious developer posted a hack that can overcome this problem, in the Comments section of my CodeProject article. His practical workaround was to pack the duplicating header/footer text inside a t...
