This Week I Learned - 

* Azure Center for SAP solutions (ACSS) is an end-to-end solution that enables you to create and run both new and existing SAP systems as a unified workload on Azure.

* ARM based CPUs are now supported by all major US Clouds. ARM can deliver up to 40% better price/performance vs comparable x86 instances.  Customers can further cut down cloud usage cost by more than half by running their workloads on Oracle Ampere Altra A1 based VMs vs ARM instances from other public cloud providers.

* By default, SSH on VMs is configured to use private keys for authentication. When using a bastion host, you log into the bastion host first, and then into your target private VM. Because of this two-step login, which is why bastion hosts are sometimes called "jump servers," you should use ssh forwarding instead of storing the target machine's private key on the bastion host as a way of reaching the target machine.

* Spinnaker is an open-source multi-cloud continuous delivery platform co-developed by Google and Netflix. Spinnaker supports Google Cloud Build as a continuous integration system.

* Salesforce has its own data centres across the world that service some customers running on the core platform (Sales, Service, Experience Cloud, etc). Salesforce uses AWS in regions where they don't have their own data centres (eg. in Canada, India, Australia). Salesforce customers can build on AWS to extend their Salesforce capabilities.

* Cooling failed at a Google Cloud data center in London on 19th July when the UK experienced a record-breaking temperature of more than 40C (104F). Oracle's London region also suffered cooling issues.

* “Operate what you build” puts the devops principles in action by having the team that develops a system also be responsible for operating and supporting that system. Full cycle developers apply engineering discipline to all areas of the life software life cycle: design, development, test, deploy, operate, and support.... breadth increases each developer’s cognitive load and means a team will balance more priorities every week than if they just focused on one area. Netflix mitigates this by having an on-call rotation where developers take turns handling the deployment + operations + support responsibilities.

* HPE CloudPhysics service continuously monitors and analyzes IT infrastructures, estimates costs of cloud migrations, and models customers’ IT infrastructure as a virtual environment.

* Tesla disclosed in February 2021 that it had invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin, and subsequently sold 10% of its stake that April. Its digital assets have shrunk to $218 million. Tesla has sold 75% of its Bitcoin holdings so far.

* Since dried fruit is used as a sweetening agent and any dried fruit used to be described as "plums", many plum cakes and plum puddings do not contain the plum fruit now known by that name.

* Autoimmune Disorders: (such as) Crohn's disease, Grave's disease, Lupus, MS, Pernicious anemia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Sarcoidosis, Sjogren's syndrome, Ulcerative colitis, Scleroderma, Hashimoto thyroditis can't donate blood, but most can donate or sell their plasma for research purposes.

* The founder of the INC was this British civil servant named Allan Octavian Hume. He was also an ornithologist so much so that he is called ‘the father of Indian ornithology’. The state bird of Mizoram is called Mrs Hume’s pheasant after his wife Mary Hume. - IWTK
