Renewed my Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer Certification
After taking the ACE Renewal Lab Exam on August 31st, I was notified today that my Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer Certification (that I achieved in 2020) has been renewed!
Back in June, I was pleased to receive this email that went like this -
Google Cloud invites you to a Public Preview of a free, open-book, non-proctored lab to renew your Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE) certification.
What’s new?
The ACE Renewal Lab Exam is a no-cost, non-proctored, hands-on lab exam. You can consult documentation and access the GCP search bar within the Google Cloud console, just as you would in a real-life setting.
Who is eligible?
All Associate Cloud Engineers whose certifications expired in 2023 or will expire in 2023 are eligible. Successful completion of the lab exam will renew your ACE certification for three years.
When is it available?
You can take the lab exam anytime during the three day window from August 29 to 31. If you’re not available during that window, more opportunities are coming throughout 2023.

I jumped at the opportunity and registered immediately. After a few days I was notified that my registration to the Public Preview for ACE Renewal Lab Exam has been accepted.
A week prior to the ACE Renewal Lab Exam in the August, there were multiple time slots provided for Office Hour sessions with the Google Cloud Learning team to see a demo of the lab environment and gets question about the exam answered.
The exam aspirants were encouraged to try the challenge labs on the ACE learning path (public path or Google Cloud Partner’s path).
Having first tried Qwiklabs in 2016 before it was acquired by Google, I've been a fan of the Qwiklabs hands-on training methodology. I love how the video tutorials, quizzes and labs are designed and presented.
The actual ACE Renewal Lab Exam was made up of 5 independent tasks configured as individual hands-on labs of varying duration. The labs could be attempted in any order. The overall duration was 90 minutes but once a lab is started, it had to be completed within the allotted duration for that lab.
The format of the tasks is similar to Google Cloud Skills Boost / Qwiklabs Challenge Labs.
Preparing for the exam was a productive & fruitful learning experience.
