* An aphorism is a concise statement that contains an expansive truth. Unlike the folk wisdom of proverbs—"A stumble may prevent a fall" or "You can't push a rope"—aphorisms can be attributed to a particular person. Brief and sharp, aphorisms distill big ideas into few words; by saying little, they manage to suggest more.
* India is one of the 25 members of the IMF board. India's influence at the fund is limited. Unlike the United Nations' one-country-one-vote system, the voting rights of IMF board members are based on a country's economic size and its contributions – a system which has increasingly faced criticism for favouring richer Western countries over developing economies. For example, the US has the biggest voting share - at 16.49% - while India holds just 2.6%.
* Every third and fourth bedsheet and towel used in the US is made in India
* The departure of Kohli, who endorses over 30 brands, and Rohit Sharma, who fronts about 25 brands, leaves a huge chasm in cricket branding starting from the upcoming India-England series. For perspective, among the next gen in Team India, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant endorse between 12-15 brands while Shubman Gill fronts 10-12. - MoneyControl
* The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-XL (PSLV-XL) mission failed mid-flight, resulting in a loss of approximately ₹850 crore (Rs 8 billion. Estimate - ₹5.5 billion for the satellite and ₹3 billion for the rocket).
The mission, designated PSLV-C61, was intended to deploy the Earth Observation Satellite EOS-09, a key surveillance asset with strategic importance.
The PSLV, a four-stage rocket using alternating solid and liquid fuels, has a strong success record.
This is only the third in its history, following failures in 1993 and 2017.
This was the 101st launch from ISRO's spaceport at Sriharikota. -Rediff
