This Week I Learned - Week 39 2025

Image
This Week I Learned - *  Task lists in GitHub Issues lets you break down an Issue into more manageable pieces . * GitHub Repository and File Limits - Individual files: Maximum allowed size is 100 MB (files larger are blocked); warning appears at 50 MB. Repository size: Recommended under 1 GB per repository, strongly recommended under 5 GB; hard technical limit is about 10 GB on-disk. Number of repositories per account: Up to 100,000 per owner beginning April 2025. Git Large File Storage (LFS): Free accounts include 1 GB of LFS storage and 1 GB of bandwidth per month. Paid plans can increase this. Tips for Larger Storage: For storing files above these limits, GitHub recommends using releases or external storage services. Consistently exceeding recommended repository size may result in slower performance or contact from GitHub support. While casual usage is flexible, very large files and repositories trigger warnings or limits. For specialized needs, GitHub LFS and paid storage opt...

HOW TO replace a Lithium Ion Battery in a USB Charging Portable Fan or Similar Electronic Devices

Image
I purchased a BAJAJ Pygmy Mini USB Charging Portable fan in December 2023, and it was very handy during the summer. After not using it for a few months, I tried to turn it on one day, but it wouldn't start.  It was beyond its one-year warranty, and there were no electronics shops in my neighborhood to figure out the issue. I discovered that YouTube videos can be a great resource to see if others have faced the same problem and found a solution. I came across a great video on YouTube that showed me how to fix and revive the fan. It turned out that it just needed a new rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Perplexity offered a great explanation about the ICR-18650-800mAh battery type used in the fan. ICR: Indicates lithium-ion chemistry with cobalt (LiCoO₂). 18650 cells are a standard size widely used in everything from flashlights to laptops and e-bikes. The battery size is 18mm diameter, 65mm length (cylindrical format). It comes in a variety of capacities (measured in mAh or milliamp...

This Week I Learned - Week 38 2025

Image
This Week I Learned -  * "Software testing methodologies such as Test Driven Development (TDD), a test-intensive approach that involves first writing rigorous tests for correctness and only then making progress by writing code that passes those tests, are an important way to find bugs. But it can be a lot of work to write tests. (I personally never adopted TDD for that reason.) Because AI is quite good at writing tests, agentic testing enjoys growing attention." - Andew Ng * "An LLM agent runs tools in a loop to achieve a goal." - Simon Willison *  Free Hands-On Microsoft Azure Labs   *  Xipu Li on the future of programming -  If you're learning to code today, please don't stop. But don't make coding your only skill. The developers who thrive in this new world will be the ones who understand users, markets, and business models as well as they understand technology . If you're already a developer or building a company, focus on: Better user understa...

Career Advice from Vinod Khosla

Image
Insightful career advice from Indian-American billionaire businessman and venture capitalist, Vinod Khosla (born 1955) -  Lifelong Learning and Flexibility "..today, at age 70, I'm learning at a much faster pace than I've ever learned in my whole life. Ever. Every 20-year-old should strive for this ability—to jump into any new area , whether it's a physics problem or a biology problem or a finance problem." Thinking from First Principles "Just this ability to think from first principles ... learning new areas can teach you any new areas. AI will have that capability to be able to leverage these things well." Optimizing Your Career for Flexibility "You have to optimize your career for flexibility, not a single profession . That's the most important advice because you don't know what will be around." Learning How to Learn "I do think it almost doesn't matter where you start. Education is going to be valuable to have. Learn to l...

This Week I Learned - Week 37 2025

This Week I Learned -  * Skills Andrew Ng looks for while interviewing AI engineers: Use AI assistance to rapidly engineer software systems Use AI building blocks like prompting, RAG, evals, agentic workflows, and machine learning to build applications Prototype and iterate rapidly * The most productive programmers today are individuals who deeply understand computers, how to architect software, and how to make complex tradeoffs — and who additionally are familiar with cutting-edge AI tools.  * As users increasingly turn to chatbots as companions and counselors, they sometimes express a sycophantic attitude that may reinforce a user’s subjective perspective or even delusional perceptions. * Keeping track of very long inputs remains a challenge for most LLMs, and processing more than 2 million tokens — the current limit of Google Gemini 2.5 Pro — is a wild frontier. - The Batch   * Khanmigo, an AI-powered tutoring program developed by Khan Academy. Based on GPT-4, the prog...

Key Takeaways from The ROI of AI 2025 Report

Image
Google recently published a report on the The ROI of AI 2025 - How agents are unlocking the next wave of AI-driven business value. AI agents are specialized LLMs that have specific roles, context, and objectives to independently plan, reason, and perform tasks with access to data function call APIs and can interact with other AI agents if needed. These can be pre-built or in-house built agents There is a fundamental shift from AI that simply assists to AI that can operate independently under human control and guidance.  We’re in the agentic era, where AI agents can independently execute tasks and make decisions— under human guidance and guardrails.  Levels of AI agent maturity Level 1 Simple tasks Chatbots Information retrieval Image generation Level 2 AI agent applications Customer service AI agents Creative agents Level 3 Multi-agent workflows Agentic workflows Agent orchestration Top gen AI impacts across business areas - Productivity Customer experience Business growth M...
