Azure in India

The Track Order page on Jiomart e-commerce website shows a 502 Bad Gateway error page revealing it is hosted on the Microsoft Azure platform & uses "Microsoft-Azure-Application-Gateway/v2" as its load balancer/reverse proxy. This is of course, public knowledge for many Azure-hosted sites (easily detectable via headers, DNS, or tools like Wappalyzer).

The 502 Bad Gateway default error message from Azure Application Gateway (v2 SKU) is shown when it can't communicate properly with the backend server (e.g., invalid response, timeout, or misconfiguration).

In security best practices (e.g., OWASP guidelines), avoiding detailed server/proxy info in error messages is recommended to follow the "principle of least information" as it slightly reduces fingerprinting (identifying exact tech stack for targeted attacks).

For better user experience and minimal obfuscation, custom error pages in Azure Application Gateway (supports 502 and 403 errors) can be configured or the default message can be hidden entirely.

Jio built and operates data centers across India (starting with facilities in Gujarat and Maharashtra, later expanded) that host Microsoft Azure. This created localized Azure regions (like "Jio India East/Central" in Azure console), ensuring data residency compliance and low-latency services for Indian users. 

Jio's Azure-backed data centers (part of the 2019 Microsoft partnership) are specialized facilities hosting Azure services for JioCloud customers, distinct from Microsoft's standard public Azure regions in India (Central India in Pune, West India in Mumbai, South India in Chennai). 

Microsoft Azure has over 60 operational regions worldwide. Each region typically includes multiple physical data centers (often 3+ for availability zone support), totaling over 300 data centers globally

Jio India West is an Azure region serving India in Asia Pacific from Jamnagar, Gujarat while its paired region Jio India Central is Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Jio resells and bundles Azure services (along with Office 365, Azure AI, cognitive tools) at affordable prices via JioCloud/JioBusiness.

Microsoft is also separately investing heavily in India - about $17.5B for cloud/AI infrastructure expansion in existing regions like Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune.
