Like the qualifier leading up to it, contestants’ vizzes are scored based on analysis, storytelling, and design.

Information is Beautiful Awards were set up in 2012 by David McCandless, journalist and datavisualizer of Information is Beautiful, in collaboration with Aziz Cami, the then Creative Director at Kantar. The Awards are judged by a panel of experts & a public vote in the areas of data visualization, infographics, interactives & information art. The awards went on hiatus for 2020 and 2021 due to the global pandemic and have been relaunched in 2022 under the leadership of the Data Visualization Society.
