Open Food Facts Facets

On the Open Food Facts (OFF) website, “Facets” are essentially filters or categories that let you browse products by the following attributes:
  1. Added amino acids (7)
  2. Added minerals (62)
  3. Added nucleotides (2)
  4. Added vitamins (38)
  5. Additives (331)
  6. Allergens (67; e.g., gluten, peanuts)
  7. Brands (5984; “Tata Tea,” “Lipton,” etc.)
  8. Categories (2934)
  9. Codes (34477; Example)
  10. Contributors (960)
  11. Countries (129)
  12. Data sources (75)
  13. Entry dates (2826)
  14. Food Groups (54)
  15. Green-Score (9)
  16. Ingredients (15125)
  17. Labels (445; e.g., Green Dot India, organic, fair trade)
  18. Languages (91)
  19. Last check dates (11)
  20. Last edit dates (2053)
  21. Manufacturing or processing places
  22. Miscellaneous (677)
  23. NOVA groups (6; Nutri‑Score A–E)
  24. Nutrition grades (7)
  25. Origins of ingredients (129)
  26. Other nutritional substances added (8)
  27. Packaging (339; e.g., plastic bottle, carton)
  28. States (38; Brands to be completed, Ingredients to be completed etc)

The numbers shown in brackets are the counts for each of the Facets or dimensions of classification for Indian packaged food products as on 15-Sep-2026.

OFF also exposes many of these dimensions through its API and generated data, which is useful if you're working programmatically with OFF data.

Why It Matters
  • For consumers: Easier to filter by dietary needs (e.g., gluten‑free).
  • For researchers: Quick aggregation of product counts by attribute.
  • For developers: Facets are exposed via the Open Food Facts API, making structured queries possible.
