  • gives actionable feedback that helps subordinate improve performance
  • does not micromanage
  • regularly shares relevant information from his/her manager and senior leadership
  • helps reportee understand how his/her work impacts the organization
  • has regular 1:1s
  • has the technical expertise required to effectively manage reportee
  • talks about all aspects of career development - not just promotions
  • has a meaningful discussion with subordinate about his/her career development in the past six months.
