On Twitter...both the US president-elect and the leader of ISIS can communicate with equal ease with tens of millions of their respective followers through Twitter — without editors, fact-checkers, libel lawyers or other filters.

* A source map provides a way of mapping code within a compressed JavaScript or CSS file back to it’s original position in a source file. This means that – with the help of a bit of software – you can easily debug your applications even after your assets have been optimized. Using source maps allows developers to maintain a straight-forward debugging environment while at the same time optimizing their sites for performance. The Chrome and Firefox developer tools both ship with built-in support for source maps.

Under his leadership, TCS generated consolidated revenues of $16.5 billion in 2015-16. Twitter trends can be gamed

* The chief distinction between finding “a mentor” and creating “a mentor board of directors” is that there is less pressure to find one person who represents your ideal future self. You can diversify your search criteria and learn from a variety of people - HBR

* The lowest income tax slab in the US starts at 10% rising all the way to 39.60% with 5 slabs in between. On purchasing power parity, the highest slab in United States of America for example would apply to those who earn an Income equivalent of Rs.7.5 million and higher.

Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) mutual funds account for 10% of total Assets under Management in Equity oriented Plans.

* China is the most populous country in the world, but is also one of the fastest-ageing.

* With more than 140 million guest arrivals to date, Airbnb, the online reservation marketplace that lets people turn their homes into vacation rentals, has proved a boon for hosts and an attractive option for travelers looking to avoid hefty fees from hotels. An Airbnb “Superhost” is one who has hosted many guests and consistently received five-star reviews. Only about 7 percent of hosts are Superhosts.

* Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes in the world, reaching 20 feet in length. These natives of Indochina got loose in the vast wetland ecosystem of southern Florida, where the warm subtropical climate suited them fine. The latest to join the fight to save Florida's native fauna is the python's old adversary from India – the Irulas. Rom Whitaker, came up with the idea: bring Irula tribe snake hunters from Tamil Nadu to Florida. They had caught snakes including pythons for the skin industry until 1975, when India banned the trade. He had declared that the Irular were 'world's best snake hunters' because they track snakes down into their burrows  - FirstPost

* Over the past half century, American breakfasts have become “lower-fat versions of dessert,” notes Gary Taubes, author of “The Case Against Sugar.” A frappuccino is really just a large dessert masquerading as a coffee. Many packaged granola bars and fruit products – like apple sauce – are loaded with added sugar, above and beyond the delicious natural sugar in fruit - NY Times

* There are large amounts of added sugars in products that are generally thought of as healthy — foods like infant formula, protein bars and yogurt. There are over 75 names for ‘Added Sugar’. Medical evidence shows that high sugar consumption is linked to obesity, diabetes and tooth decay — though not all of that work distinguishes between added sugar and total sugar - NY Times

* To the sugar industry, the nutritionists’ dogmatic belief that obesity is a calorie overconsumption problem and a calorie is a calorie has been the gift that keeps on giving. The assumption of nutritionists’ ignores decades of medical science, including much of what has become textbook endocrinology (the science of hormones and hormone-related diseases) and biochemistry. By the 1960s, researchers in these fields had clearly demonstrated that different carbohydrates, like glucose and fructose, are metabolized differently, leading to different hormonal and physiological responses, and that fat accumulation and metabolism were influenced profoundly by these hormones. The takeaway is that we should expect the consumption of different macronutrients to have differential effects on the hormonal milieu of our cells and so, among myriad other things, on how much fat we accumulate. These effects may be very subtle, but subtle effects can accumulate over a few years or decades into the anything-but-subtle phenomena of obesity and diabetes -  NY Times

Health advice can change after more detailed studies reveal new insights - Coffee was considered a potential carcinogen, until overwhelming evidence led to its recognition as part of a healthy diet. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases expert panel changed their earlier recommendation and now advises that babies be given peanut powder or extract in food before they are six months old rather than making sure they go nowhere near it.
