This Week I Learned -
* Docker for Windows requires 64bit Windows 10 Pro and Microsoft Hyper-V. Image2Docker (also called “I2D2”) is a PowerShell module which extracts applications from a Windows Virtual Machine image into a Dockerfile. Image2Docker first inspects the artifacts in a Windows Server VM image. This original VM could be a Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012 or 2016 and its VM format could be WIM, VHD or VHDX. It looks at the disk for known artifacts, compiles a list of all the artifacts installed on the VM and generates a Dockerfile to package the artifacts.
* Docker for Windows install includes: The installation provides Docker Engine, Docker CLI client, Docker Compose, Docker Machine, and Kitematic.
* Linux containers can run only on Linux hosts. However, in recent versions of Windows Server and Hyper-V containers, a Linux container also can run natively on Windows Server by using the Hyper-V isolation technology that currently is available only in Windows Server Containers.
* Currently there are no plans to bring ASP.NET Web Forms, Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), Workflow Services (WCF + WF in a single service), and WCF Data Services (formerly known as ADO.NET Data Services) to .NET Core.
* ASP.NET Core apps can run on .NET Core or on the full .NET Framework
* CloudEndure's Disaster Recovery Infrastructure Calculator can provide a cost estimate for a DR solution on Azure, GCP & AWS
* Microsoft Professional Program Certificate in CyberSecurity is a free 10-course program
* 50% buildings in Hyderabad violate GHMC blueprint, choke infra & spark chaos. As per its data, there are 22 lakh households within GHMC's jurisdiction.
* Depending on the payment mode you choose, transaction charges on the online train ticket booking site IRCTC can vary from nil to 3.5% of actual cost
* Stupid online forms! A Cancer patient marked herself terrorist on visa-waiver form. Stevenson, who had to shell out over £800 (Rs 75, 589) for her blunder, said the mistake probably occurred because she thought she had ticked ‘no’ and “then when I scrolled down to click confirm, I think it nudged and moved. That’s the story I’m sticking to”.
* What exactly makes us laugh? Neurologically speaking, laughter is produced via a circuit that runs through and activates many regions of the brain, leading to the body’s physical response (most noticeably facial muscle contractions). It's also generally an involuntary reaction. The discrepancy theory suggests that people laugh when there’s inconsistency between a situation and the person’s knowledge or expectation of that particular situation. The superiority theory states that laughter can occur when a person feels superior to others as a mechanism to raise confidence - Go Ask Alice!
* Though the concept of eating hard-shelled, winged and other assorted bugs may be hard to swallow in the Western world, insects are common staples across parts of Asia and Africa.
* "All graffiti is low-level dissent, but stencils have an extra history" - British artist Banksy—graffiti master who settled on his distinctive stencil approach to graffiti as it would cut his painting
* "Intelligence and capability are not enough. There must be the joy of doing something beautiful." - Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy
