This Week I Learned - Week #30 2021

This Week I Learned -

* The download attribute of the anchor tag prompts the user to save the linked URL instead of navigating to it. Without a value, the browser will suggest a filename/extension.

One way to center content in a div in 2021. This works for all kinds of content -

div {

  display: flex;

  /* vertical */

  align-items: center;

  /* horizontal */

  justify-content: center;

}

If its just text, inline tags then text-align: center can do this in single property.

If you want to center vertically and horizontally at the same time -

display:grid;

place-content:center;

* Vue arguably improves upon React by combining the best of both AngularJS and React. Features like component-based approach, the one-way data flow for component hierarchy, virtual rendering and state management of app are features that are borrowed from ReactJS. The templates, syntax and easy user interface have been borrowed from AngularJS.

* The Azure Relay service enables you to securely expose services that run in your corporate network to the public cloud without opening a port on your firewall, or making intrusive changes to your corporate network infrastructure. Azure Relay differs from network-level integration technologies such as VPN. An Azure relay can be scoped to a single application endpoint on a single machine. The VPN technology is far more intrusive, as it relies on altering the network environment.

* The Hybrid Connections feature in Azure Relay is based on HTTP and WebSockets protocols. This feature is compatible with WebSocket API in common web browsers.

Hybrid Connections is both a service in Azure and a feature in Azure App Service.

Azure Stack HCI is a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) cluster solution that hosts virtualized Windows and Linux workloads and their storage in a hybrid environment that combines on-premises infrastructure with cloud services. Azure hybrid services enhance the cluster with capabilities such as cloud-based monitoring, Site Recovery, and virtual machine (VM) backups, as well as a central view of all of your Azure Stack HCI deployments in the Azure portal.

* The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) is a US law that reformed the financial services industry, allowing commercial and investment banks, securities firms, and insurance companies to consolidate, and addressed concerns about protecting consumer privacy. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act requires financial institutions – companies that offer consumers financial products or services like loans, financial or investment advice, or insurance – to explain their information-sharing practices to their customers and to safeguard sensitive data.

* SWIPO (Switching Cloud Providers and Porting Data), a multi-stakeholder group facilitated by the European Commission, developed a set of Data Portability Codes of Conduct. These Data Portability Codes of Conduct, which are voluntary, were written to provide guidance on the proper application of Article 6 of the Free Flow of Non-Personal Data Regulation.

* There is a limit executing time for Google Apps Script (GAS) - 6 minutes for Consumer and Google Apps free edition, and 30 minutes for G Suite and Early Access.

* In 1999, Yahoo was the biggest Internet company by far and was worth over US$125 billion at its peak. In 1998, Yahoo! refused to buy Google for US$1 million. Yahoo! was the giant and Google was the tiny ant. In 2002, Yahoo! tried to buy Google for US$3 billion when it realized how quickly Google was growing, but Yahoo! decided to walk away from the deal when Google asked for US$5 billion. In 2008, Microsoft tried to buy Yahoo! for US$40 billion, but Yahoo! refused. In 2016, Verizon ended up buying Yahoo! for a mere US$4.8 billion as business fundamentals had deteriorated significantly (and swiftly) from Yahoo!'s heyday. Today, Google has a market value of US$1.7 trillion. Thai proverb: When the tide is high, the fish eat the ants. When the tide is low, the ants eat the fish

* The Foundation for Excellence (FFE) was founded with a mission to provide college scholarships to students who, although financially constrained, showed great promise in the technological, engineering and medical fields, three of the most expensive higher education programs in India.

* The Sharpe ratio was developed by Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe and it gives an idea about the return against the risk taken by the investor while Rolling return will give a clear picture about the return given by the fund manager at regular time intervals.

* Under the pen name J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts has produced two novels every year since 1995 for the past twenty years. Her novels are police procedural-meets-romance set in a futuristic New York, in 2058.

* In March 2005, Grey's Anatomy was a mid-season replacement for another TV show. A thirty-five-year-old called Shonda Rhimes had made the show that would end its first season with a 20 million audience. The last & final seventeenth season concluded in 2021 with the lead character Meredith Grey played by actor Ellen Pompeo being the last one standing from her intern class.

* In June 1950, with the Soviet Union's support, North Korea invaded the South. The UN Allied Forces captured Seoul in September 1950. They went on take Pyongyang but the Chinese Army drove them back. On July 23, 1953, an armistice was reached, drawing the war to end after 3 years and over 3 million casualties.  - Battle for Incheon: Operation Chromite

* Rabbits, Parrots, Chameleons have panoramic vision (they can see in nearly 360 degrees) due to the placement of their eyes, paired with their monocular vision. As such, they can see behind them, up, down, on both flanks, and ahead of them. While a human’s eyes are forward-facing, a rabbit’s sit on either side of its head.  Monocular vision gives rabbits one weakness: two small blind spots. The first spot is located right in front of their eyes. This is why rabbits often do not seem to see food if you place it directly in front of them. Rabbits do not have good color vision or depth perception unlike humans who have binocular vision & better depth perception. Farsightedness helps them spot animals at a distance. Anything right in front of them might be blurry and difficult to view. However bunnies are sensitive to vibrations. Their ears can pick up on the softest of noises.

* According to Cambridge dictionary, poramboke is an Indian English word of Dravidian origin that refers to land that belongs to the government. "poramboke lands" are not assessed to revenue records and it is outside the revenue accounts.

* A Patta is a legal document issued by the Government in the name of the actual owner of a particular plot of land. It can also be issued for lands having buildings or individual houses etc. constructed on them.

* English is the sole official language of the Judiciary of India, unless a state Governor or legislature mandates the use of regional language, or the President has given approval for the use of regional languages in courts.

* Many internet platforms and voice commands on Google also recognize Hinglish.

* Most Indian languages, unlike English, have a nearly phonetic spelling, so the spelling of a word is a highly reliable guide to its modern pronunciation. Indians' tendency to pronounce English phonetically as well can cause divergence from British English. This phenomenon is known as spelling pronunciation.

* The most famous dictionary of Indian English is Yule and Brunell's Hobson-Jobson (1886)

* 'Gachi' means limestone plaster and 'bowli' stands for well. The name of the place Gachibowli in IT corridor is derived from this well. Languishing in apathy for years, the well is beside the Dilawar Shah Begum mosque in Tellapur, 10.7 km from Gachibowli. It was lost due to decades of neglect. Built during the Asafjahi period, it is around 200 years old. Once the well was a water resource for the entire Gachibowli area.
