* The regular pickled cucumbers that Americans eat in huge amounts, especially in hamburgers, increasingly come from India. India is now the world’s largest exporter of gherkins or cornichons, as the small pickled cucumbers are called. It earned $223 million in 2020-21 from exports of 223,000 tonnes of them, both fresh and pickled.
* In a cloud kitchen’s P&L statement, 10% is rental, 7% is utilities, 15% is manpower, and aggregators such as Swiggy and Zomato will charge 25%. Food will be 30% &5% is packaging.
* Majuli in Assam is the world's largest river island. Majuli means land in the midst of two rivers. The island is formed by the Brahmaputra river in the south and the Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri River in the north. In 2016 it became the first island to be made a district in India.
* Umananda in Assam is the smallest river island in the world.
* The Rs 950-crore fodder scam relates to fraudulent withdrawal of public funds from government treasuries in various districts of undivided Bihar. The fodder scam came to light in January 1996 after a raid at the Animal Husbandry Department. The CBI named Lalu Prasad as an accused in June 1997. Of the original 170 accused in the case, 55 have died, seven have become government witnesses, two have accepted the charges against them and six are absconding. The RJD supremo, Prasad who has been sentenced to 14 years in prison and slapped with a total fine of Rs 60 lakh, has secured bail in the four cases related to Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries.
* Back in 1992, Harshad Mehta was the big bull, but Radhakishan Damani, now known as the founder of DMart stores, was the big bear. Mehta and Damani kept betting in opposite positions. When the stock markets crashed after the Harshad Mehta scam got out, Damani cashed in as he was on the shorting side of the market. Today Damani is the 98th richest man in the world.

When the bank went down for a few days, 40% of the UPI payments failed and PhonePe had to later rope in other banks to run its business. Second-placed third-party application provider (TPAP) Google Pay has a 33%-36% share. Paytm was the leading mobile payments app till UPI gained popularity.
