* Grocy is a web-based self-hosted groceries & household management solution
* DuckDB is an in-process SQL OLAP database management system. It is free & open-source
* DuckDB is designed to support analytical query workloads, also known as Online analytical processing (OLAP). It leverages a SQL query execution engine capable of running complex queries on large datasets.
* DuckDB is the SQLite for Analytics. It is great for interactive data analysis jobs, such as joining or aggregating multiple large tables. SQLite is an embedded online transaction processing (OLTP), whereas DuckDB is an embedded online analytical processing (OLAP).
* DuckDB is truly serverless like SQLite. No server, no infrastructure needed to use. DuckDB can query CSV or Parquet files available on an S3 bucket or locally.
* DuckDB is way more versatile than Polars or Pandas. DuckDB is generally faster than Pandas when it comes to executing SQL queries on large datasets. This is because DuckDB is an in-memory analytical database designed for speed and efficiency. Duck DB supports SQL and NoSQL data models.
* DuckDB is intended for use as an embedded database and is primarily focused on single node performance. MongoDB uses a flexible, JSON-like document model for storing data, which allows for dynamic schema changes without downtime.
* Cloudflare Pages is a JAMstack platform for frontend developers to collaborate and deploy websites.
* Jamstack is an architectural approach to frontend web development that uses JavaScript, APIs, and Markup (JAM) to create fast, secure, and scalable websites and applications.
* GPT-3 models can understand and generate natural language. These models were superseded by the more powerful GPT-3.5 generation models. However, the original GPT-3 base models (davinci, curie, ada, and babbage) are currently the only models that are available to fine-tune. As OpenAI launches more capable models, it regularly retires older models.
* Gemini is built to be multimodal, it can generalize, understand, operate across and combine everything from text and images to video and code.
* AI highlights of 2023 [PDF, 50 pages] by Armand Ruiz
* Microsoft Copilot will use web context, work data, and real-time PC activity to provide enhanced assistance with a focus on privacy and security.
* Meta has developed custom AI chips, including the Meta Scalable Video Processor (MSVP) for efficient video processing and the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) for various AI tasks. Amazon is developing custom microchips, Inferentia and Trainium, for generative AI, offering an alternative to Nvidia GPUs. Microsoft's first AI chip on Azure is called Maia. AMD has unveiled the Instinct MI300X, a data center GPU to capture market share from Nvidia in the AI chip market. Intel has announced new chips - Gaudi3, a chip designed for GenAI, Core Ultra chips for Windows laptops and PCs with built-in AI capabilities.
* Artificial-Intelligence-For-Bhārat / AI4Bhārat Research Lab at IIT Madras works on developing open-source datasets, tools, models and applications for Indian languages.
* The centralized ownership of social media has been bothersome to a small but passionate group of people. While a traditional social networking site will host all its content on servers owned by the parent company, the decentralized social media sites that make up the fediverse allow any individual or organization to host their own servers (referred to as an "instance"). The fediverse (a portmanteau of "federation" and "universe") is an ensemble of social networks which can communicate with each other, while remaining independent platforms. ActivityPub, a W3C standard, is an open, decentralized social networking protocol that powers the fediverse. Noted fediverse platforms include Mastodon, and Instagram Threads. Nearly all fediverse platforms are free and open-source software. The “fediverse” is a return to the fundamental principles of the “open” internet, where integrity and security comes from shared ownership and decentralization. Wordpress, the blogging platform that some data suggests powers more than 40% of all websites on the internet, is integrating ActivityPub into its software so publishers and bloggers can use it if they wish.

* The Portugese are among the largest consumers of cod fish
* 'Cunk on Earth' is a five-part Netflix mockumentary in which an ill-informed TV correspondent named Philomena Cunk played by Diane Morgan travels around the world. Cunk is prone to mispronunciations and malapropisms, but she says what she thinks — and what she thinks is often very, very funny. There have been a number of sequels featuring Cunk, either limited series or one-shot specials: Cunk on Shakespeare, Cunk on Britain, Cunk and Other Humans. They all have the same winning formula: Philomena is sent to real exotic locations around the world, to offer her observations and interview actual experts — all of whom are polite and befuddled in equal measure. According to a comment on IMDB, all the interviewees were briefed that Cunk was a comedy parody character, and were told to treat her like an ignorant child.
* More than 300 medicines produced or retailed in India will have to carry a web-linked dynamic QR code or barcode, primarily on primary packaging, under India’s amended Drug Rules 2022, from 1 August 2023.
* UDGAM is a centralised web portal developed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to help customers search for their unclaimed deposits with banks and other financial institutions
* Mochiko Shoes is a contract-manufacturing partner to leading international brands like Adidas, Puma, New Balance, Skechers, Reebok, Asics, Crocs, Decathlon, Clarks.
* "AI will have a more profound impact on humanity than fire, electricity and the internet" - Sundar Pichai, CEO Alphabet
* "We must be second to none in the application of advanced technologies to the real problems of man and society." - Vikram Sarabhai
